Pain is a problem when you are trying to loose weight or become stronger in the gym. You might ot push yourself enough or you can further make the problem worse
Lately I have a special client who is dealing with hip sciatic pain, and was told no deadlift’s or squats from physical therapy. And I agree, but I was shocked there was no more explanation with that instruction. We all as healthy bodies should be able to squat and deadlift. Not that doesn’t mean you have to squat or deadlift in the 500 club, but you should be able to love your body to do those movements. Especially since they’re part of everyday life. Don’t you squat on a toilet or chair everyday? Don’t you pick something up off of the floor?
Yes , you should work with your doctors, physical therapist, or chiropractor for body imbalances with your structure. But their focus is getting you back to “normal.” What is normal? Being able to do just the normal everyday activities. The problem is I know people who can do everyday activities and they are still in pain they still don’t feel healthy, so the market of normal is irrelevant.
With sciatic/hip pain the first step was to activate the right muscles before stretching the muscles around surrounding joints . This sounds like the opposite of what you want to do make the muscle “tense” but this is allowing the body to “recorrect” what it should be feeling.
Pain experiences …
I’ve worked with people that have gone to physical therapy for example their right leg and then over develop or under acknowledge their left. Which leads to more problems and imbalances. Leaving out looking at the body as a whole.
One of my favorites was an individual, who was on the edge of choosing surgery. He decided that to give the option of training a chance (so proud of this) . Not only was he able to relieve the shoulder pain but he was able to improve sleep and work.
Surgery and pills are usually the easiest thing to do because it’s a one and done thing or a pill is easier to take everyday. It’s not easy to choose to move and become conscious in everyday movements and adapt to new habits to help improve imbalances.
